BS8555:2003 Enviromental Management System

The British Standards Institute has introduced a new standard to help small to medium enterprises (SMEs) work towards achieving a formal environmental management system (EMS). The standard sets out a six phase implementation programme to work towards a formal EMS such as can be certified to BS EN ISO14001. Progress can be acknowledged against the standard at any of the six phases, allowing SMEs greater control and freedom over their project plan.

We are currently working towards becoming accredited in BS8555:2003 parts 1 to 3 a British Standard set up to help businesses become more environmentally aware. This will enable us to implement an environmental management system within our business helping us to become more environmentally conscious and friendly.

It encourages us to improve or even change our processes and procedures to protect all aspects of the environment.

We will be completing BS8555:2003 parts 4 to 6 and then we will move on to BS EN ISO14001 to achieve an internationally recognised standard.
